Real Advice. Better Building.
ProBuildPicks is an independent construction and home-improvement publication built around real contractor experience. We publish buying guides, product comparisons, cost guides and practical explanations covering decking, tools, building materials, kitchens, bathrooms, basements, roofing, siding and related project decisions.
The goal is not to repeat manufacturer marketing. We focus on the questions homeowners, DIYers and contractors actually ask: What does it cost? How does it install? What are the tradeoffs? What can fail? What does the warranty actually cover? When is paying more worth it?
Who’s Behind ProBuildPicks
ProBuildPicks is led by Jason Cubero, a New Jersey contractor with construction and remodeling experience dating to 2003. He founded Cube Carpentry and later helped build Prime Decks. His field background includes composite and PVC decks, railings, stairs, kitchens, bathrooms, basements and finish carpentry.
How We Separate Experience From Research
Not every article on ProBuildPicks is based on firsthand product use, and we do not pretend otherwise. Our methodology uses clear evidence labels:
- Installed: used on a real paying project.
- Used on jobs: worked with repeatedly in real construction conditions.
- Tested: personally evaluated hands-on in a real working setup.
- Researched: evaluated through current manufacturer documentation, warranties, specifications and other credible sources without claiming firsthand use.
- Manufacturer information: a specification or claim published by the manufacturer and identified as such.
If an article does not explicitly say that a product was installed, used or tested, readers should treat the product-specific evaluation as research based. Our How We Review Building Products page explains these definitions in detail.
What We Evaluate
- Performance for the intended application
- Installation requirements and compatibility
- Durability and maintenance
- Realistic total cost, not just shelf price
- Warranty terms and important exclusions
- Availability of matching materials, accessories and replacement parts
- Who a product makes sense for—and who should probably choose something else
Source Standards
For factual product details that can change, we prefer primary sources whenever practical: manufacturer installation manuals, technical data, warranty documents, product specifications and applicable public code or safety information. Retailer information and independent sources may supplement those documents, especially for pricing, availability and real-world context.
Corrections and Updates
Products change. Warranties, model numbers, prices and installation requirements change too. We update high-value guides when important information changes and correct meaningful errors when we find them. Readers, manufacturers and tradespeople can request a review through our contact page.
How ProBuildPicks Makes Money
Some articles may contain affiliate links, advertising or clearly disclosed commercial relationships. Those relationships do not guarantee positive coverage or rankings. We do not accept payment to move a product higher in a comparison. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.
Editorial Accountability
Our Editorial Standards explain how we handle firsthand claims, research, comparisons, pricing, building-code cautions, corrections, updates and AI-assisted workflows. Editorial responsibility remains with ProBuildPicks.
Research & Reference Resources
Writers, homeowners, contractors and researchers can start with the ProBuildPicks Research & Reference Center for our planning tools, comparison tables, core topic hubs, methodology and expert-source information.
Who We Write For
Our primary audience is in the United States, but the site is available worldwide. Product availability, pricing, climate, building practices and codes vary by region. Always confirm current manufacturer instructions and local requirements before starting a project.
