Contractor note: I use CAMO hidden-fastening products on deck projects, and EDGE Clips are one of the simplest parts of the system to understand: they fasten grooved deck boards without putting screws through the face of the board.

Evaluation basis

When this article says a product was installed, used on jobs or tested, that statement refers to firsthand experience. If we do not explicitly make one of those claims, the product-specific evaluation is research-based using current manufacturer documentation, installation requirements, warranty terms and contractor context.

What we compare: use-case fit, installation, durability and maintenance, warranty and support, availability and value.

Quick verdict

CAMO EDGE Clips are a good fit when you are installing grooved wood or composite decking in a standard 90-degree pattern over wood joists and want a clean hidden-fastener surface. Their real advantage is not just that the screw is hidden—it is that the clip, spacing and installation tools are designed to work together.

What CAMO EDGE Clips are designed for

According to CAMO, EDGE Clips are intended for grooved wood and composite deck boards installed in 90-degree patterns on wood joists. The plastic spacer creates a 3/16-inch gap between boards, and the clip can be fastened with the included NEVER-MISS guide or with CAMO stand-up tools such as ClipDRIVE or DRIVE.

The clip is pre-assembled and designed to stay positioned on the joist until you are ready to fasten it. That matters on a real deck because a hidden fastening system becomes frustrating fast if clips are constantly falling, twisting or moving while you are trying to set boards.

Where I use them

  • Grooved composite decking.
  • Straight 90-degree field-board layouts over wood framing.
  • Projects where a clean surface with no face screws is important.
  • Decks where I want consistent 3/16-inch spacing through the field.

What I like

  • Clean finished surface: No exposed field screws through the deck board face.
  • Built-in spacing: The clip creates the board gap as part of the fastening system.
  • Fast installation options: You can use the hand guide or pair the clips with ClipDRIVE.
  • Broad decking compatibility: CAMO warrants its Universal Deck Clips for many leading grooved decking brands.

Important limitations

EDGE Clips are not the answer for every deck pattern. CAMO specifically positions EDGE for 90-degree layouts on wood joists. If you are building diagonal, herringbone or other patterns, or working over metal framing, you need to choose the CAMO clip made for that application instead of forcing one product into every layout.

CAMO also says not to use an impact driver for fastening these clips. Follow the current installation instructions and the decking manufacturer’s requirements for joist spacing, board gapping and fastener compatibility.

EDGE Clips with ClipDRIVE

This is where the system becomes more attractive for contractors. You can install EDGE Clips with the included guide, but ClipDRIVE lets you fasten them while standing. If I am doing a large field of grooved decking, that is the setup that interests me most because it reduces repetitive kneeling and speeds up the same task hundreds of times.

Who should use CAMO EDGE Clips?

Professional deck builders: A strong option when the board and framing layout match the clip’s intended use.

DIY deck builders: Also practical because the clip controls the gap and keeps the deck surface clean.

Complex patterns: Check CAMO’s other clip options first; EDGE is not intended to be the universal answer for every pattern despite being part of the Universal Deck Clip family.

My contractor take

I like hidden fastening systems when they make the installation cleaner without making the crew fight the hardware. EDGE Clips make the most sense as part of a system: clips for spacing and fastening, LEVER for board control and ClipDRIVE for repetitive fastening.
