Deck skirting can make the difference between a deck that looks unfinished and one that feels integrated with the house. It can hide framing, create a cleaner transition to grade, discourage animals from getting underneath, and—in some designs—provide access to useful storage.

Our Favorite Deck Skirting Options
- PVC lattice: affordable, ventilated and easy to replace.
- Composite or PVC boards: premium, clean and easy to coordinate with the decking.
- Horizontal slats: modern look with controllable spacing.
- Stone-look panels: strong visual upgrade for taller decks.
- Open design: sometimes the cleanest answer for very low decks or attractive framing.
Lattice: Still a Good Value
Lattice remains popular because it provides airflow while hiding much of the framing. We prefer durable PVC-style products over thin materials that can warp or deteriorate quickly. A framed lattice panel usually looks more intentional than simply fastening sheets to the outside of posts.
Composite and PVC Board Skirting
Using deck boards or coordinating trim creates one of the most finished looks. The tradeoff is cost and the need to plan ventilation, expansion, access panels and ground clearance correctly.

Stone-Look Skirting
Stone-look panels can work especially well on elevated decks attached to masonry or higher-end homes. The key is making the skirting look like part of the architecture rather than a decorative sheet added afterward.
Do Not Forget Ventilation and Access
Do not seal the underside of a deck without considering moisture and airflow. If utilities, hose connections, drainage, lighting transformers or storage are underneath, include a practical access opening from the beginning.
Bottom Line
For value, framed PVC lattice is hard to beat. For a premium deck, composite/PVC boards or a well-designed stone-look system can dramatically improve the finished appearance. Match the skirting to the height and architecture of the deck rather than choosing it as an afterthought.
