I’m Jason Cubero. I’ve been in the construction trade since 2003, and I run Cube Carpentry here in Central New Jersey. Decks, kitchens, bathrooms, full remodels. That’s my day job.
Every week a homeowner asks me the same kinds of questions. Which decking brand is actually worth the money? Is this tool any good, or am I paying for the name? What’s a fair price for this job?
So they’d go online, and what they’d find drove me crazy. Buying guides written by people who have never held a drill. Reviews that just reword the manufacturer’s spec sheet. Rankings that change depending on who pays the highest commission.
I started ProBuildPicks to fix that.
Everything on this site comes from job sites, not press releases. I’ve installed the decking I write about. I’ve broken the tools, fixed them, and replaced them. I’ve seen which materials hold up after five New Jersey winters and which ones don’t.

I’m not going to tell you the most expensive option is always the best. Sometimes it is. Sometimes the mid priced board is the smarter buy, and I’ll tell you when.
My rule is simple: I only recommend what I’d put on my own jobs or in my own house. If I wouldn’t install it for my family, I won’t recommend it for yours.
Stick around. There’s a lot of bad advice out there, and I’m here to cut through it.
Jason
